2006 - 2007 Trips

Below are the trips that we have made this academic year. Please feel free to browse through these trips and those from past years as some of the stops may be of particular interest to your future career.

Berkshire Hathaway Annual Meeting - May 5, 2007

For our Omaha trip, we arrived early to watch the introduction video produced by Warren Buffett himself. We then listened to Q&A from investors directed toward Mr. Buffett and also observed the formal shareholders meeting.

Chicago- April 12 - 14, 2007

This particular Thursday afternoon students visited Aon Corp. and met with CEO and K-State alum Greg Case, Aon's Chief Risk Officer Diane Aignotti, and a recruiter. On Friday, students visited Goldman Sachs for a discussion of investment banking with a managing director and an analyst, stopped by the Chicago Merc and Chicago Board of Trade, attended a lecture at the Federal Reserve and discussed stock analysis with Morningstar's Director of Stock Analysis Pat Dorsey over lunch.

Kansas City- April 5, 2007

The Spring semester's trip to Kansas City was an action packed day with new opportunities for SFA. Students started the day visiting Cerner with presentations by Leigh Perkins and Kurt Schiller, then a tour of the Cerner Vision Center. The next stop was to the Kansas City Board of Trade where students had the opportunity to discussion futures, exchange issues, and a number of other topics with traders, followed by a visit to the trading floor. The last stop of the day was to Tortoise Capital Management. K-State alumni Terry Matlack, Zach Hamel, and Rob Thummel gave an overview of Tortoise and investment management.

New York City - Feb 21 - Feb 25, 2007

SFA's first trip of 2007 was to New York City where a group of students met with prominent alumni and finance professionals and also had the opportunity to visit the floor of the New York Stock Exchange. This was a great networking opportunity and allowed students to get a better idea of the career opportunities in a city as prominent as New York. The trip included the following stops:

  • Joe Searles and 125th Street Business Improvement District (Harlem)
  • WJ Bonfanti (Floor Brokers)
  • Abel/Noser (Agency Broker)
  • NYSE floor
  • Deloitte (Consulting)
  • Deutsche Bank (Fixed Income)

Kansas City - November 10, 2006

Our visit to American Century was arranged by FAB member and K-State alum Doug Reber - Sales Vice President. At American Century, we met with a portfolio manager and analyst for American Century's Vista Fund (which is managed primarily using technical analysis tools) and a senior trader. At George K. Baum we met with Adam Wieden, an investment banking analyst, and Matt Urbanek, a Vice President. And at Prairie Capital Management, we met with Amy Jubela, an analyst, Andy Klocke, a Vice President and Curtis Krizek, one of the founders.

Chicago -October 5-7, 2006

In Chicago we visited the Chicago Mercantile Exchange, The Chicago Board of Trade, and The Chicago Federal Reserve. Following these visits we spent three hours meeting with Paul Larson, editor of the StockInvestor magazine, and Pat Dorsey, Director of Stock Analysis.
