September

  • Tuesday, Sept. 2: CBA Social and Informational Meeting
    • Finance faculty introductions
    • SFA plans for the semester discussed.
    • Over 80 students attended.
  • Tuesday, Sept 9: ConocoPhillips
    • SFA's first professional meeting of Fall 2008 featured representatives from ConocoPhillips. We want to thank John O'Hara, Seth Sanders, and Chase Ilten for presenting for our group, and for ConocoPhillips generous donation to our organization.
  • Tuesday, Sept 16: Koch Industries
    • We were thrilled to have as our guests College Recruiting Director Jenn Fast and Manager of Talent Development D.R. Leach along with several SFA alums now at Koch
  • Friday, Sept 19: Trip to Koch Industries
    • Around thirty members of SFA rode down to Koch Industries. D.R. gave an interactive presentation to help students understand the philosophy of Market Based Management. Koch then provided lunch for all the members, and allowed employers to explain various roles that they are apart of in their company. After lunch Lee Baker gave an in depth presentation on excel and pivot tables. Jen and D.R. then presented one last time. It was a wonderful day and SFA is very appreciative of all Koch has done for us.

  • Tuesday, Jan. 27: Kansas City CFA Society
    • We had a large audience for our first meeting of the year with Jonathan Bauman, CFA and Vice President of the Kansas City CFA Society. Jonathan talked about the great opportunities that can come from becoming an established Chartered Financial Analyst, as well as gave us information and advice about the CFA exam. The meeting began at 6:30pm in Kedzie 004. We would like to thank Jonathan for being able to join us.

    • Telefund 2009
      • For the 5th consecutive year, SFA was the top CBA volunteer student group participating in Telefund.
    • Tuesday, Feb. 10: Buffalo Funds - Kent Gasaway
      • We had a stimulating discussion on how our economy got to where it is today and what we can predict for the future. Mr. Gasaway was able to answer some great questions presented by our SFA members.
    • Tuesday, Feb. 24: Federal Reserve Bank of KC - Mandy Kramer
      • Mandy discussed the Fed and its three main functions, career opportunities within, benefits of working there, and some great interviewing tips for the future.

      • K-State's first ever visit to meet with Warren Buffett. More details available through our Trips page.

    April

    • Tuesday, Apr. 28: Dr. John Graham
      • Dr. Graham shared with us some words of wisdom for our current economic crisis that he refers to as the "Perfect Storm". Membership Excellence Awards were handed out, and elections for next year's officers were held. We'd like to congratulate all the new SFA officers and thank the old officers for a great year!

    • May 1 - May 2: Berkshire Hathaway Annual Meeting
      • SFA took a 15 passenger van up to Omaha, NE again this year. The trip was very successful.
