- Warren Buffett
Selected members of SFA will once again have the opportunity to travel to Omaha to meet with Warren Buffett!
- Luncheon
SFA members are invited to a luncheon with Gary Bauer, a CPA and a K-State alumnus. The event will be held at the Alumni Center at 11:45am. Please RSVP to Lindsey Stiles if you are interested in attending.
- Annual Holiday Party
Our last meeting of the semester will be our holiday party, including a movie and snacks. Feel free to dress up in your tacky christmas sweaters!
Fall 2009 Meetings
- Informational Meeting
We had a great turnout for our first meeting of the school year in the Big XII Room after a social in the Cats Pause Room. We were lucky to have our distinguished faculty there to introduce themselves to the members and to share their words of wisdom. Laura Needs from Career & Employment Services also joined us to give us tips on how to market ourselves for the upcoming career fair. The officers introduced themselves to the members and we closed the meeting by talking about the exciting events to come this semester.
- ConocoPhillips
SFA was pleased to have Jesse Moore and Jordan Trivette from ConocoPhillips join us for a great discussion about opportunities at COP.
- Koch Industries
Five former SFA members now at Koch Industries - Corbin Navis, Carrie Swartz, Brandon Herrmann, Hailey Berry and Matt Hewitt - led a great discussion about opportunities at Koch and career success.
- Career Fair
SFA members were again selected as one of two College of Business student organizations to represent the College.
- Kansas City Trip
SFA members traveled to Kansas City for the afternoon to visit with Scott Wittman, Senior Vice President and Senior Portfolio Manager at American Century, and then presentations on the CFA program and getting a job in the finance industry.
- KSU Foundation
We would like to thanks Lois Cox from the KSU Foundation for joining us. She discussed with our members the Foundation, the CFA & CFP, and the advantages of the Bloomberg system.
- Academic Majors Fair
SFA members had a second service opportunity this semester by helping staff the Finance booth at the Academic Majors Fair in the Union. Thanks to all who volunteered!
- Special THURSDAY night meeting
Jacob Urban, a Pricing Analyst from Bank of New York, was able to join us in Calvin 209 on Tuesday. Mr. Urban, a K-State grad, discussed his role at the Bank of New York as well as his transition to NYC and Wall Street job search.
- American Century
We were pleased to have Jonathan Bauman, Client Portfolio Manager of American Century and President of the Kansas City CFA Society, back again with us to talk about the CFA and how important it has become these days. We had a great discussion over the benefits of being a CFA charterholder and how to best prepare yourself for the exams. - KeyBank Real Estate Capital
Darin Mainquist, Tony Nemec, Chris Snell, and Joel Yoest from KeyBank Real Estate Capital joined us for the first time to talk about their company and the real estate industry. We want to thank the four of them for coming and hope to see them again!
- IIM trip to Chicago
SFA students were invited to join students from the IIM program for Morningstar's Stocks Forum.
- Boston Trip
SFA students traveled to Boston, making visits to Goldman Sachs, Bank of America, Bain Capital, and Bain and Co.
- First Annual SFA Tailgate
SFA students, alumni, and faculty gathered at our first annual tailgate before the KSU v. Mizzou game in the Cat Town Tailgate area. This event turned out to be a great opportunity for students to network, socialize with other finance students, and grab some great food and drinks before the game. Thanks to everyone who helped put this together and participated!
- Cerner
Cerner associates Kurt Schiller and John Newman, both K-State and SFA grads, joined us on Tuesday. The two discussed what Cerner does, the healthcare market and what the future looks like for it, and a little about their recruiting efforts. Zac Sobba, Bond Fund Manager, discussed what the committee has been working on all semester and their results. Elections were also held; congratulations to Charles Mersman, Charissa Dugan, and Johnny Hermes for being elected Spring 2010 officers! And a big thanks to our outgoing officers, Zac Sobba, Seth Auld, Lindsey Stiles, and Meagan Boyett for doing a great job this semester. We will miss you!
